Transgender Program
Founded in 2002, the Bronx Health Center Transgender Program now sees the highest number of transgender patients in the Bronx. CHN offers transgender participants weekly workshops presented by CHN staff and special guests, support group meetings and counseling by licensed social workers, primary care, including HIV counseling and testing, and preventative services. The intensive outreach is conducted by a Case Finder who intimately understands and addresses the barriers transgenders face in accessing care: discrimination from providers; lack of provider sensitivity or transgender awareness; and issues regarding patients’ gender identity. Originally founded because CHN identified a lack in HIV outreach service outreach to the transgender community, the program is open to ALL transgenders, regardless of HIV status.
